Looks good enough to eat!

I haven't posted in a while, but it's because I've been making this cake. Doesn't it look great? But you can't eat it - it's 100% made of paper! It's a favor cake! Each slice is a box and each opens to hold little trinkets, gifts etc. This one is for my husband's parent's 60th anniversary (that's not a typo, it's really 60!). We bought the personalized M&Ms and we are going to put them in little organza bags and fill each slice. I think we are also supposed to be working on a little "thank you for coming" scroll...eek, don't have much time left to do that. Thanks to Helen...she always has very inspiring items on her blog...who knew you could be making a cake from paper.

Floral punch craft

Found another cool craft that I had to try - it's all about making homemade flowers using paper punches. I've been making little flowers all week and tonight made a quick card. While I was at it, I thought I could also use my cricut. Here's the "recipe"

Pointsettia: Joys of the season

Daisies: medium EK Success 5 petal flower

Daisy leaves: same punch, cut out teardrops from the petals to make leaves. It's hard to see, but all leaves are veined. There are tools to do this artwork, but I am using a darning needle, a piece of fun foam and a transfer rub on tool as well as a stylus to do all the shaping and veining

I have a couple more cute flowers put together, just need to figure out what to do with them and then I'll post those too. The leaves are bigger and inked, so you'll know what I mean by the veining.

House Mouse Challenge #51 - Songs/Lyrics

This week's challenge was to let a song inspire you...so my inspiration is Twinkle Twinkle Little Star. What cute star - this little house mouse is. I finally sewed on a card again too! I was worried because I haven't done it in ages, but the stitches came out pretty straight. The red paper is embossed once, brayered on the back with white ink, and then embossed again. I like the texture it gives the paper to double emboss it, and the double embossing seems to press the ink into the paper so it looks like it's part of it rather than sitting on top.

Sympathy Cards

So many have left us recently in the celebrity world, but all of a sudden it seems like friends of mine are losing loved ones also. I had two within two days both lose fathers. Both lived long, productive lives thankfully, but it must still be difficult anyway. I've been thinking about how to do sympathy cards; I find them very hard to to. I think this one came out ok. The tree stamp is from Stampin Up, the sentiment is from that great $1 bin at Michaels.

House Mouse and Friends Challenge # 42 - Neopolitan

Chocolate, vanilla and strawberry - that's the challenge this week! I found this darling saying in the clearance bin at Michael's today and knew right away what I wanted to do with it. I work in IT (information technology), a field that's filled with men. I'm a Project Manager and one of the few gals who are working on a heavy duty project. I decided to make myself and 3 other gals this cute little cubicle picture to remind them they are as good as the guys and most likely even better. I didn't have the exact colors, but I think they are close enough to be considered neopolitan (I hope). This is also my most favorite stamp, I've used it many times. Do you like how I made them all the same except for the color of their purses?

House Mouse & Friends Challenge #35 and Sketch Saturday #49

Being able to do one card for two challenges was great again this week! Although it was quite by accident. The HM&F challenge was a Feel better soon challenge and after I put the card together, I thought this stamp definitely fit the challenge. On the inside it says "A mother is "sew" wonderful".

My husband still has pneumonia and I worked a ton of extra hours last week. I'm still exhausted! He had been getting better and then had a relapse that was worse than the first time around. He has to go to Doc tomorrow, so we'll see what he says.

House Mouse & Friends #34 AND Mojo Monday # 83

Two challenges conquered at once! Now that makes my life easier.

The HM&F challenge said to think spring! And the bunny and mouse eating a nice fresh carrot in the lavender (which is flowersoft) just made me thing of spring.

Cuttlebugged the background (don't you just love how cuttlebugged has become a verb?). Nestie for the sentiment, which is computer generated and the Fiskars treading water punch for the edging border. The lady bug is from a set of foam stickers in one of the Michael's dollar bins.

Sketch Saturday #47

Happy Sunday everyone. This was a perfect challenge to go along with April's MCPT challenge on the Cricut Cards messageboard. Changito stamp, MCPT, nestie for circle, rain dots for bubbles and some flowersoft.

Some more "oldies" - House Mouse (and friends)

Seems like there's many house mouse fans out there - and I certainly don't have all the stamps, but I'm building my collection. It's certainly my favorite brand so far - I love the details and how they look when colored. My biggest problem is that I haven't done too many more than once so far!

Mojo Monday Sketch #82

I keep checking out the different challenge and sketch sites to get motivated and so far it's working.

Used one of my favorite bunny stamps for this, plus a SU sentiment. MS punch for the edges and labels one set of Nesties.

I'm enjoying blogging and receiving comments! I'm REALLY surprised that people leave me comments; I look at what I do and it just doesn't seem special. But it makes me free special to read the comments I get. Thank you! :)

Using scraps

I am such a bad scrapper - I tend to throw away lots of stuff...I fill up the garbage can under my desk every week. So I am trying to recycle more and use all the scraps I am starting to keep. This was a card I threw together in a few minutes - no theme - just one to have around.

I had woven the paper a while ago and found it today. The purple paper is cuttlebugged and cut out with my new Nestie label set.

The words are computer generated.
